Northwest Lady Tigers

What screams #1 on the field and is full of team spirit? The Northwest girls soccer team is who! These girls give it their all when they are on the field which is more than anyone can ask for.

The 2017 season has been a great experience to the whole team and the Northwest family. They have bettered their passing skills, communication skills,and more. When the team doesn't have a successful game they aren't sad they just accept that they lost and they keep on grinding hard.  ¨Building trust between each other has been the hardest thing because we didn't know each other that well before the sport started,¨ said Kaila London, sub/wing of Lady Tigers. Two years ago, the girls soccer team had the best record out of all middle schools. This year the girls record was 1-3-2.  ¨Our loss against central was a win for us because the girls came together as a team, and they were very very excited, they saw their work, and the instructions that were given to them finally paid off.  They started working as a team even though it was a loss that sticks more with me than the wins,¨ said Coach Henderson, 3rd year head coach.

People think playing soccer is all fun and games, but no. There are certain steps you have to follow if you want to have a successful game, and you take the risk of getting injured. Actually, 2 of our soccer girls, Yajaira and Alondra got injured and couldn't play the season.  Every year when a new team of girls come in, it's fun to see how the team goes because of the different experience each girl has had with soccer . ¨A lot of the girls have never played before, they don't watch soccer on TV, they don't understand the ins and outs. They think soccer consists on running the ball up and down the field and just kicking the ball. Until a team realizes, especially a new team some of the finer points of soccer and they keep doing things their way, you can be a more talented team and have more skills on the team but until you learn how to play as a team and learn the right way to play you can be your own worst enemy,¨ Coach Henderson stated.

¨In order to be successful, there is a certain way you have to go about doing things,¨ Coach Henderson said. Even though the Northwest Lady Tigers didn't win a lot of games  they had a lot of fun representing Northwest and that's more important to us than winning!
