The federal government has stated that they will resume accepting D.A.C.A renewal requests. How was this accomplished?
In case you don’t know, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (D.A.C.A) was established in June 2012 by the Obama administration. This gave undocumented immigrants that were at least 15 years old, and that have lived here for a while, protection from deportation. The recipients have to renew their paperwork every 2 years and have to pay a $495 to do that. But recently our new Republican president, Donald Trump, has removed it. “President Trump on Tuesday ordered an end to the Obama-era program that shields young undocumented immigrants from deportation, calling it an “amnesty-first approach” and urging Congress to pass a replacement before he begins phasing out its protections in six months.” This was what we thought was the end of D.A.C.A. this resulted in the fight for D.A.C.A.
Many people fought for D.A.C.A., there were marches, peaceful protests, and boycotts. Many people support D.A.C.A. because they know it is the right thing to do, including me. I have personally gone to protest because, the end of D.A.C.A. will have a huge impact on my life. Most of the people I have befriended were not born here. Therefore they are what you and most people would call “illegal.” To me that sounds a lot like racism. You are discriminating a certain group of people that are different than you and that, to me, is racism.
Many “Trump supporters” have claimed that this is “their” country. But it’s not. This is the land of second chances. This is the land of the free. This is where the 13 colonies united for freedom and independence from England. Therefore everyone who has roots reaching back to the colonist and are supposedly “native” are not. We are all immigrants because we all immigrated from where ever we originated (which I KNOW is not here) and traveled and settled in the America’s. Ironically none of us outside of the Native Indian Americans are actually legal.
Donald Trump as a president is very dangerous. “He is a jerk” said 7th grader Gisselle. His temperprtment could be the result of a catastrophic war. He could easily tick off another country's leader and they could declare war on us. But most importantly he could personally hurt his own people. He could mistakenly have someone deported because they look illegal but they are actually not. This could be the reason the United States becomes a divided nation.
Since Donald Trump took away D.A.C.A., many undocumented people are worried and angry. But they do not act with violence or slander. Instead they act with peaceful protest. They protest for what they know is right. Sounds quite a bit like what the founding fathers did. They went against everything that people thought was right. Thus, the United States of America was born. Nowadays, here we are, disgracing their hard work and dividing our country.
The dreamers and D.A.C.A. supporters know this is wrong and fought for their rights just like the founding fathers did. The fight for D.A.C.A. finally paid off. “The Obama-era program, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals known as D.A.C.A., will be operated on the terms in place before it was rescinded.” NY times stated. “The decision came after a federal judge in California issued a nationwide injunction on Tuesday ordering the Trump administration to resume the DACA program.” continued NY times. This was a great relief for undocumented immigrants all over America.
Thanks to everyone who helped out in the fight for D.A.C.A., renewal requests for D.A.C.A. will continue to be accepted. This decision has finally given immigrants one less thing to worry about.
