A lot of people think Mexico is a bad place full of poor people and drug cartels. But is that all that Mexico is about?

Day of the Dead

Mexico has many beautiful traditions, one is the day of the dead (dia de los muertos). It is celebrated between October 31st and November 2nd. “The day of the dead is when me and my family set up a table in our living room with food, our beliefs is that our passed away family members come to our house and take the smell of the  food.” said Joanna Hortelano a nine year old Mexican-American.

Quincenera

Another could be a quincenera. It is a way of celebrating a fifteen year old girl that has turned into a young woman. Girls are very excited to have this once in a lifetime party.

Lady Guadalupe
We also celebrate our lady Guadalupe ( la Rosa De Guadalupe ). She is celebrated on roses and she gave him one rose in which her image was printed. some say when she appeared in front of san diego, she had a pouch full of roses in which one was her image.

Dia de los ninos

Mexico also has a special day for the kids (dia de los ninos). It is a day to celebrate  the kids and their youth.

La semana santa
The holy week (la semana santa) is when mexicans don't go to work for four days so they can go visit their family. This happens on march 24 to 28. They also have big parades.

Dia de la bandera

On the 24th of February is flag day (dia de la bandera). Each stripe of the flag represent something that has happened. The green strip of the flag represents the independence movement. The white stripes shows the Catholic faith. The red stripe represents the blood of the national heros that joined the independence quest.

So, now do you still think Mexico is a bad country. It really isn’t, it is a really beautiful place and it has many beautiful sites, where you can experience these traditions.

  2. I lived in Mexico most of my life almost 40 years- My family and my children were born there. My parents were missionaries before I arrived then we served there for 30 years as a family. I want to say that I love Mexico, the people, the cultures and dances from every state of the country. The people are amazing, kind, giving, sacrificial, and genuine- The bad rap of Narcos and drugs have dragged the good people and their image to fear the country and the people. Let me say- Mexicans are the most amazing people I have ever met! Brian Teachout!
