Conspiracy VS. Theory: Sleep Paralysis

By: Sendell Madero

Sleep paralysis occurs when you wake up but are unable to move. If you’ve ever experienced this then you know how scary it is. If you haven’t then click ‘read more’ to find out more about this unusual topic.

Sleep paralysis happens normally at night when you go to sleep. You can't move, you cant breathe, it feels like someone is sitting on your chest, or like you’re being choked. All you can move is your eyes. The scientific cause for sleep paralysis is simple. Sleep paralysis has to do with rapid eye movement (REM)which is when your brain has vivid dreams and your muscles are turned off when your sleeping. So when you wake up before the REM cycle is done your muscles won’t move.

But on the other hand, not everyone thinks that's the reason why you get sleep paralysis. Many people think  the reason you get sleep paralysis is because a demon is visiting and trying to possess you. People believe sleep paralysis is a key to the other side, where all the dead spirits live. Some say that when you get sleep paralysis the reason you feel pressure on your chest is because there’s a demon sitting on your chest. So when a demon sits on top of you and you open your eyes you’re letting the demon go inside you and possess you.

Another theory is that you’re being visited by your guardian angels. People have had experiences where they get sleep paralysis and see two dark figures standing at the foot of their bed. They seem to recognize their voice as if they have known them for in their lifetime. They think that there guardian angels are there to protect them from bad spirits, and others see their dead relatives.

Scientist say almost everyone experiences sleep paralysis once in their life.
So if you experience sleep paralysis don’t panic just think of the scientific reason for sleep paralysis.
