Imagine being a 13 year old girl, terrified of her parents being deported. Someone who you’ve had by your side most of your life being sent away, Wouldn’t you be Devastated? This is something many kids have to deal with. It’s 2016 and we are still dealing with many of the problems we dealt with over 100 years ago.
Racism:
One of the many problems in America is Racism. We live in a country where people discriminate each other due to the color of their skin. Instead of people motivating each other about their culture or skin color we judge each other because of who we are. There has been a lot of controversy on social media about the hashtag that has been trending for a while, #BlackLivesMatter. The movement does not only believe that black lives matter, Police cruelty and killing of black people is what started this movement. Hurting or abusing someone because of their skin color is a racist act.
Immigration:
Many people come to America with ambition to create a better life, but in reality they are going to face many problems, in the end the reality might not be as high as the expectations. An estimate of 11 million undocumented
immigrants live in the U.S. According to “Junior Scholastic, “ Approximately 16.6 million people in the U.S live in mixed-status households that include at least one undocumented immigrant.” A mixed-status household is members of a family that have different citizenship. A kid who is undocumented can have troubles getting a good education. According to, “Junior Scholastic”, “ Veronica isnt in College because she can’t afford it- and she can’t ask the federal government for a loan.” Veronica isnt able to ask for loans because she’s undocumented so that leaves her without a good education, which will lead to a not so great job.
Economy:
For many years in the United States we’ve had wealth inequality. 33% of voters vote for the economy, that means that many people are voting for someone who is going to support us and will take in consideration our economy and will make it great again. According to, “wealth Inequality.org,” “The United States exhibits wider disparities of wealth between rich and poor than any other major developed nation.” The wealth between the rich and poor in America is a huge difference, The top 1% of Americans possess 40% of Americans wealth meanwhile the bottom 80% own 7% of America's wealth. Many people struggle with financial problems because they don’t have good paying jobs. People who are wealthy have more opportunities and can use their money to become even wealthier, while the people who have low income don’t have the same opportunities and can’t really build upon anything to accomplish something worth investing in.
Politics:
The presidential elections are coming up, and the Republican presidential nominee is Donald Trump. In the Democratic side we have Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. It seems that the Presidential elections have been causing a lot of controversy. Donald trump has caught the spotlight because of his immigration opinions and for many of the issues he plans on doing. One main thing that has caught many people’s attention is Trump wanting to build a wall along the entire border of Mexico to keep people from coming into the U.S. Meanwhile Hillary supports Obama’s immigration policies, Bernie plans to build upon Obama’s immigration orders. Would you want someone one who dislikes you because of who you are or someone who fully supports who you are. When you go to each of the presidential nominee website Bernie and Hillary cover a variety of issues, meanwhile Trump doesn’t cover as many issue’s. Hillary plans on giving working families a raise and creating good paying jobs. One of the things Bernie plans on doing is to increase minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 and creating jobs, not only for adults but also for the youth of America. Trump plans on creating a variety of jobs and making america great again. All presidential nominees are capable of doing incredible things and not so amazing things. Some things Trump plans on doing may take many years and in the end could be impossible to do. Hillary and Bernie have their flaws too but in the end who will make America great again?
Many years have passed and we are still dealing with some of the problems we dealt with ages ago. We may not realize that the issues that are happening today are similar to the ones that happened over 100 years ago. So, again I ask when was America great?
