Have you heard of Annabelle, Robert The Doll, or the Haunted Wedding Dress? Well these are known to be “haunted objects.” A lot of haunted objects still exist in museums. Click ‘Read more’ for some haunted objects and learn of where they are now.
4) The Chair of Death- In the year 1702, a murderer named Thomas Busby was going to be hanged for his crimes. He had a last request which was to have a last meal at his favorite pub in Thirsk which is located in England. When he finished his meal, he stood up and said, "May sudden death
come to anyone who dare sit in my chair." The chair stayed in the pub for hundreds of years. Patrons would dare each other to sit in the curse chair. When WWII was going on, soldiers would go to the pub. People noticed that soldiers who would sit on the chair would not return from war. Later on in 1972 the pub owner donated the chair to the local museum. Now it hangs on a wall 5 feet off the ground so no one could sit on it.
3)Robert The Doll- In 1896, Robert The Doll(picture on the left) belonged to a little boy named Robert Eugene Otto, in Key West, Florida. Robert was given the doll by a servant who practiced black magic and disliked Robert’s family. Robert like his doll so much he would even talk to it a lot. Servants at his house would swear that they would hear phantom voices responding to the boy. Also, neighbors would say that they saw the doll moving from window to window when nobody was home. The doll started causing problems and Robert would say he had no part in it. Rooms would be messy, vases would be smashed, and Robert would be blamed for it all. Later on, Robert inherited the house and died in 1972. The house was purchased by another family. A girl who moved in the house found the doll in the attic and was quickly afraid of it. She started saying that the doll was alive and wanted to kill her. The doll ended up in an art gallery and historical museum in Key West, where it is still on display to this day. Visitors claim that they have to ask permission to take a photo of the doll. If they don’t, legend has it that the doll will curse you.
2)Haunted Wedding Dress- In 1849, a girl from a wealthy family named Anna Baker fell in love with a low class iron worker. Her father, Ellis Baker, refused to let her marry him. Then Anna’s father banished the man from their hometown of Altoona, Pennsylvania. Anna was very mad with her father that she never fell in love or got married and remained bitter and angry until her death in 1914. Before her father sent the man away, Anna had chosen a wedding dress that she intended to wear in her wedding. Another rich woman from another family, Elizabeth Dysart, wore the dress instead. Many years later, the dress was given to a historical society. Eventually later on, the Baker mansion was turned into a museum. The dress was placed in a glass case in Anna Baker’s room. After Anna died, people would say that they saw the dress move on its own.
1)Annabelle- In 1970, a woman went to a thrift store and bought a Raggedy-Ann style doll for her daughter, who was in college. The college daughter really liked it so she kept it in her apartment. Later on, the college daughter and her roommate started noticing strangely odd things happening that involved the doll. They would sometimes find it in other positions or in other rooms even though no one touched it. They also kept finding parchment paper which they didn’t even own. The paper had childish writing on it. The roommates even found the doll impossibly standing on its rag doll legs one day. The frightened roommates hired a psychic medium. The psychic told them that the spirit possessing the doll was a little girl who had died in the apartment building. “Annabelle” said that she liked the college girls. SHe also said that she wanted to stay with them, so the girls told her she could. Giving the spirit the permission to stay lead to increased paranormal activity, including having a male friend get attacked by the doll one night. The doll left many scratch marks all over his chest. The girls then contacted psychic investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The married duo soon found out the the doll isn’t possessed by the spirit of a child at all. It was actually possessed by a demon who lied about its identity just to get close to the girls. The college girls gave the doll to the Warrens, who then put the doll in a glass display case in their Occult Museum in Connecticut. The sign on the glass read “Warning: Positively Do Not Open.”
These were only some of the many haunted objects in the world. Many haunted objects are in displays in museums. If you had a chance to see any of these, which one would you like to go see?
