It’s that time of year again, where artists from all corners of the world gather together to win the awards that they’ve worked hard for at the Billboard Music Awards! The BMA’s aired on Sunday, May 22, 2016 on ABC at 8 PM central time. R&B singer, Ciara and rapper, Ludacris hosts!
Artists like Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Celine Dion, Fifth Harmony, Shawn Mendes, The Go-Go’s, Demi Lovato, Meghan Trainor, Nick Jonas, and Tove Lo, and my personal favorites, DNCE, Troye Sivan, and Pink performed at the event and many more! It is a very entertaining program that only comes on once a year so you wouldn’t want to miss it.
All kinds of awards were given out for best album, best female artist, best R&B song + album, best song of the year, best song, and many more were going presented that night to deserving artists in front of millions. The Weenknd was the most nominated artist, with 17 nominations!
My favorite performance of the night was Troye Sivan. He sang his hit song, YOUTH. YOUTH has been all over the radio. Troye Sivan has a way of adding a dreamy feel to his songs. The imagery he uses is just great. He’s kind of similar to another one of my favorite artists, Halsey.
Another one of my personal favorites was Rihanna’s performance of ‘Love on the brain’ from her new album, ’Anti’. Her album has already produced many hits and has some popular singles including,’Work’,featuring Drake, ‘Needed me’, and ‘Kiss it better’. She has released a video for all of the songs listed just now.
Now one of the worse performances of the night, in my opinion, was Meghan Trainer’s ‘NO’. The choreography was sloppy and her costume clashed with those of the backup dancers. And overall, I just don’t like the song.
If you are looking for a more moving act then look no further. Kesha’s soulful cover of ‘It ain’t me babe’ by Bob Dylan. It was kind of like a declaration of independence almost because her record label had a hard time deciding if she should perform at the awards or not. I’m just happy that she was back on TV performing after what happened to her. She truly is a strong woman.
And finally, the last act and also the performance that takes the cake for most inspiring, memorable, and uplifting is Madonna and Stevie Wonder’s tribute to Prince. This act begins with Madonna covering Prince’s ‘Let’s go crazy’, ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, and finally ‘Purple Rain’. During Purple Rain Madonna was accompanied by Stevie Wonder and the whole audience as they sang with her and mourned the loss of Prince.
That’s my take on the 2016 Billboard Music Awards if you missed it i hope i caught you up.
Aw man I should have watched it also now im hungry again haha
