A View of the Most Expensive Stadiums

Whether It’s the Pros, or the little league, every team needs a place or stadium to call home. Many Cities, States & Countries are willing to pay lots of money to build a stadium that hosts sports games, sports tournaments(like the olympics) , concerts and festivals. Here is a list of the top 5 most expensive stadiums ever built.


5. Montreal Olympic Stadium- (1.117 billion USD) Opened in July 17, 1976, it is located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Having a capacity of 56,040 , it has hosted the Olympics , Football games and some select games from the MLS Team Montreal Impact . This stadium also has the world’s largest inclined tower, being 574 Feet tall.

4. Wembley Stadium- (1.37 billion USD) Hosting soccer games , Concerts ,Rugby , and NFL international series. Located in London, England , its capacity of 90,000 seats this is one of the most expensive stadiums that has a lot of seating. Opening in March 9, 2007 , this stadium is home to the England National Football team. Many people can recognize this stadium because of its famous arch.

3. AT&T stadium- (1.43 billion USD)Opening in May 27, 2009 this stadium is located in Arlington , Texas , this stadium is the home to the Dallas Cowboys. With a capacity of 80,000 seats , this stadium has hosted soccer games, WrestleMania, Basketball and many other events but mainly hosting football games.

2. MetLife Stadium- (1.74 billion USD)Located in East Rutherford, New Jersey this stadium Broke ground in September 5 , 2007 and opened in April 10, 2010. It has a capacity of 82,566 seats and is the home to the New York Giants & New York Jets. This stadium has hosted NFL games ,WrestleMania 29, And many concerts.


1.Yankees Stadium- (2.3 Billion USD)Opening in this stadium is located in Bronx,New York City,New York. This stadium is the most expensive stadium due to it costing 1.2 billion dollars in public subsidies and the rest is the cost of the stadium itself. It hosts baseball games (New York Yankees of the MLB) & hosts soccer games too.(New York City FC of the MLS )



These were the most expensive stadiums around the world (as of april 2016). Many stadiums construction costs have changed due to inflation. Lots of stadiums are under construction right now like the Mercedes-Benz Stadium that is estimated to be 1.4 Billion USD. The City of Championships Stadium is planned to start construction in Inglewood, CA in August 1, 2016. So the next time your grumbling about not having a home team in a major sport, ask yourself, "Do I have the money to pay for a new stadium?"
