Every 16.2 seconds a life is taken by suicide. A minimum of 800,000 people take their own lives per year. I am here to give those reading this that may be dealing with suicidal thoughts or a loved one that is strugglling some support. Here are some ways to help prevent and lower the number of suicides.
A majority of suicides are caused or inflicted by depression or depressed thoughts. 1 out of 25 suicides that are attempted succeed. 79% of those suicides are male, and 70% of those male suicides are of caucasian decent. The other 9% are of other ethnicity.
Some ways to find out if someone close to you is suicidal is the way they talk. If they discuss causing harm to themselves this could probably mean that they are thinking of taking their own life. Or they make some really horrible, out of line jokes. These people are mostly feeling Hopeless , and or depressed. The leading cause of Suicide is depression a subject that too many take lightly. But in reality this is something that should be taken seriously.
21% of other suicidal people are Female even though about only 8% of them actually commit suicide. Women are more prone to having suicidal
thoughts more than suicidal actions. The other 13% only do minor things such as cutting, burning, and drug abuse.
If you see that a person close to you has inflicted harm upon themselves try to talk to them and find out what’s going on. Ask them if they need/want help. Let them know that they are loved and that they will always have someone to talk to .
If you are having these issues yourself you can always talk to a councillor, or a person you trust and are comfortable talking to. If you don’t have either of those you can always talk to the people on the Suicide Prevention Lifeline. To contact them call - 1-800-273-8255. They will talk things out with you. Your life is important, there are people who care for and love you. What would the people who love you do once you were gone? “When you come to the end of your rope tie a knot and hang on.” -Suicide Prevention Lifeline
To those who have lost loved ones to the disease of suicide. I have a large amount of respect for you, for the fact that you kept your life. A moment of silence for the lost ones. May their souls rest in peace. Hold on to your life because it’s not worth losing it.
