No Curse Zone

Profanity is used everywhere you go. People might use profanity when they are annoyed, but when they use profanity it can possibly hurt someone.  I had a chance to talk to some 7^th graders at Northwest Middle School about how they feel about the new profanity rule.  Here are their thoughts.

Do you use profanity?

            1^st person- “Sometimes. Because I get mad and irritated at people.”

            2^nd person- “Yes. Because people make me mad.”

Do your friends use profanity? Why?

            1^st person-  Yes, because maybe they want attention.

            2^nd person- Yes, because they slip up.

Has someone ever used profanity against you? How did it make you feel?

            1^st person- Yes, I didn’t care because it didn’t mean anything to me.

            2^nd person- Yes, I was mad so I used profanity back.

Why do you think people use profanity?

            1^st person- They use profanity because maybe they want to be cool.

            2nd person- Because they might see another person doing it and they might   think its cool.

Who use’s profanity in your house the most?

            1^st person-  My dad because when people make a lot of noise he doesn’t like      that or when they move stuff and don’t put it back.

            2^nd person- My mom because she gets mad a lot.

Do you think its okay to use profanity? Why?

            1^st person-  No, because someone might think your not smart.

            2nd person- No, because it makes you seem uneducated.

Do you think that we should be able to use profanity anywhere? Why?

            1^st person- No, because where every you are it makes that area look bad.

            2^nd person- No, because sometimes if you use it you can get in trouble really     fast.

How does profanity hurt others?

            1^st person- some people might have never been called like that.

            2^nd person- it hurts others because some people don’t use profanity and it         can hurt them.

Why do you think people use profanity?

            1^st person- they might people know that their there.

            2^nd person- they see one person doing it and they might think its cool.

How do you feel when profanity is used? Why do you feel like that?

            1^st person- I feel like that’s their problem because that’s how they are going     to grow up.

            2^nd person- I feel like people are so uneducated because they use profanity.

When people use profanity it just makes them seem uneducated it doesn’t make you look cool.  Profanity should not be used at school and there is really no reason for it to be used anywhere. I think students are too young to use profanity. Those are my thoughts, what are yours?
